Good Read

Adam Squire | 27/12/2017

I've recently purchased Lost Teams of the Midlands. It's an excellent read and very well researched. I'm currently writing my own book about Lost Teams in Victorian Wrexham, so it's good to see something along the same lines available.

Strollers book

Stan Lyons (old captain of Bloxwich Strollers) | 16/06/2017

Many thanks for writing the book, hope the sales go well, it should at only £6.99. When will your next book be out and what is the subject this time? You mentioned Short Heath and Darlaston All saints.

Re: Strollers book

Mike Bradbury | 16/06/2017

Lost Teams Of The North (£16.99) came out at the end of 2016 -another 60 disappeared teams; I wrote a book about Subbuteo (of all things) which came out May 2017 (£7.99), and the Short Heath and Darlaston books will be around the end of 2017. Im currently working on a large work along the lines of Birth Of The Saddlers, about the rise of Aston Villa and the story of football in Aston from 1870-1900, but that is a while off yet, 2018.

Short Heath United

Harry Clift | 24/10/2016

My dad played for Short Heath int he sixties and his dad before him too. Can u tell me anything about my dad's old team, whos medals ive got in a box somewhere?

Re: Short Heath United

Mike Bradbury | 24/10/2016

Ive had a few local people say the same thing to me Mr Clift, and I see your family name is well known in the Bloxwich-Willenhall area. Im researching the story of the original Short Heath who peaked inthe 1920s and played in the Walsall League alongside Bilston, Darlaston and Hednesford. They won a few cups too along the way. I plan to do a little book about them early in 2017.

Stan Lyons (Bloxwich) | 24/10/2016

Ive been told youre writing about my old team, the Bloxwich Strollers?

Re: Strollers

Mike Bradbury | 24/10/2016

Yes Stan, thats right. For a hundred years, Walsall's 2nd best team, who were professional with their own walled ground which is still there, as Im sure you know. Many of their players went on to bigger clubs such as the Villa, Walsall and Wolves. Almost eveyone I talk to in the area says their dad/grandadad played for the Strollers. The book will be out early December 2016 and will only be about £8. Waterstones in Walsall have pre-ordered it.

Any more books yet?

Sean Williams | 24/10/2016

Lost Teams Of The North was promised for 2016, is it out yet?

Re: Any more books yet?

Mike Bradbury | 24/10/2016

Yes, published in early September, its another big book, a compendium of histories of another 60 clubs, this time from Lancashire, Derbyshire, Tyne& Wear, Belfast (!) Yorkshire, and includes many teams never before researched or written bout such as Padiham, Oswaldtwistle, Leeds City, Blackburn Park Road, Witton, Astley Bridge, Newcastle East End, Belfast Celtic, Church, Eagley, all the Sheffield teams, Talke Rangers (Stoke) and many more. Price £16 from me or Amazon, but remember that Amazon take a big cut and leave me no profit.

Follow on book ?

Andrew Jakes | 31/05/2015

Hi Mike, are you going to write a follow-on book about the history of defunct clubs from other parts of the country?

Re: Follow on book ?

Mike Bradbury | 31/05/2015

Yes, im working on TWO new books, which will compete the series;Lost Teams of the North, and Lost Teams Of The South. LTON is pretty much researched and written, but it could take until christmas before its published, and I'd say christmas 2016 for LTOTS. As before, I will write about them teams nobody else has written about as I prefer to do my own research from scratch and not use anyone else's.
